Car Rental at Vasco Station: The Short Answer
Goa Self Drive Cars offers self drive car rental at Vasco da Gama Railway Station from ₹1,100 per day, arranged around your train. The station is a terminus in the heart of Vasco, about 4 to 6 km from Dabolim Airport and 8 to 10 km from Bogmalo Beach. Call or WhatsApp +91 91049 12661 with your train number and date to book.
Vasco da Gama station, code VSG, is the end point of the South Western Railway line into Goa. Trains such as the Goa Express from Delhi, the Amaravati Express from Howrah and services from Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Tirupati finish their journeys here. Because Vasco is a port and working town rather than a beach resort, most visitors still have some distance to cover. Bogmalo is close, but Panjim, Colva and the northern beaches all need a proper drive. A car waiting at the station takes care of that last leg.
This page covers pickup at the station. If you are staying in the town or want a car for local trips, see our main car rental in Vasco da Gama page.
How Pickup Works at the Station
- Book before you travel: Send us your date, train number and preferred car.
- Stay in touch: Long-distance trains can run hours behind schedule, so update us on the way.
- Meet our team: We will confirm the meeting point near the station before you arrive.
- Check the car: Inspect it with our team, photograph any marks, note the fuel level and sign the paperwork.
- Set off: Enter your hotel on your maps before you pull away, as the streets around the station can be busy.
Please ask about any delivery charge when you book, and mention if your train arrives very late at night or early in the morning.
Best Cars to Book at Vasco Station
- Hyundai Grand i10 from ₹1,100: A simple, low-cost choice for two people with small bags.
- Swift Automatic from ₹1,500: An easy drive after a long journey, with no gears to worry about in town traffic.
- Ertiga Automatic from ₹2,500: A good 7-seater for smaller family groups.
- Creta Sunroof Automatic from ₹3,500: Comfortable for the longer drive to North Goa.
- Innova Crysta from ₹3,500: Best for large families and heavy train luggage.
You can see every car and rate on our Goa price list. Peak dates may cost more, so please confirm your rate.
Vasco Station or Madgaon: Which Is Better?
Many trains that end at Vasco also stop at Madgaon on the way. If you are staying around Colva, Benaulim, Varca or further south, getting off at Madgaon can save you time, so check your route before you travel. Vasco works better if you are staying around Dabolim, Bogmalo or Vasco itself, or want to go on to Panjim by way of the Zuari bridge. For North Goa stays on the Konkan route, Thivim station may be a better fit, depending on your train.
Distances from Vasco Railway Station
| Destination | Approx. distance | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Baina Beach | 2-3 km | Closest beach to the town |
| Dabolim Airport | 4-6 km | Flights |
| Hollant Beach | 6-8 km | Small, quiet cove |
| Naval Aviation Museum | 6-8 km | Historic aircraft on display |
| Bogmalo Beach | 8-10 km | Sheltered beach and water sports |
| Verna | 14-17 km | Industrial estate and highway link |
| Panjim | 28-32 km | State capital |
| Madgaon | 28-32 km | South Goa’s main city |
| Colva | 28-32 km | Popular South Goa beach |
| Calangute | 40-45 km | North Goa beach belt |
Distances are approximate. Check live maps for your exact route.
Driving Out of Vasco
Central Vasco is a busy working town, and the streets near the station carry a mix of buses, two-wheelers, delivery vans and port-related traffic. Move slowly, stay alert at junctions and do not stop in the middle of the road to check directions. Heavy trucks often use the main routes around the port, so give them extra room, especially when overtaking.
The road towards Dabolim and the highway is straightforward once you leave the centre. If you are going to Panjim or North Goa, you will cross the Zuari, and traffic there can build up at peak hours. If you are travelling in the evening, leave a margin. When driving to South Goa, follow the road towards Verna and then Madgaon. Try to get your first drive done in daylight if your train timing allows it.
Short Trips from Vasco
If you have a few hours before you check in, or a day to spare before your train home, Vasco has more to offer than people expect. Bogmalo is a small, calm beach that sits close to the airport. The Naval Aviation Museum on the way there displays aircraft from India’s naval history and makes a good stop for families. Check its opening days first. Hollant is a tiny cove nearby that many tourists miss. Finish with a meal in town before you drive on.
Combining a Train and a Flight
Because the station is so close to Dabolim, some travellers arrive by train and fly home, or the other way round. Tell us your plan when you book, and we can arrange to hand over the car at one and collect it at the other, subject to availability. If you are flying out of Mopa, allow much more time, as it is at the far north end of the state. See our Dabolim Airport and Mopa Airport pages for more details.
Peak Season and Monsoon
From November to February, trains and cars fill up quickly, and Christmas and New Year are the busiest of all. Book as soon as your train ticket is confirmed, especially if you need an automatic or a 7-seater. During the monsoon, trains may run late and the roads can be slippery, so allow extra time at both ends of your journey.
Returning the Car for Your Train
Agree on your return time and place in advance. Leave your hotel early enough to handle traffic, and allow time for the check and final paperwork. Remove all your bags and chargers, and keep your booking messages handy. It is always better to wait a little at the station than to rush through town with a train to catch.
What You Need to Rent a Car
- Indian guests: A valid driving licence and a government photo ID.
- Foreign guests: Your home country licence with an International Driving Permit, plus your passport and valid visa.
- Everyone: A security deposit, as confirmed at booking.
Standard insurance is included, and you can ask about optional add-ons when you book.
