Car Rental at Thivim Station: The Short Answer
Goa Self Drive Cars provides self drive car rental at Thivim Railway Station from ₹1,100 per day, with the car arranged around your train. Thivim is on the Konkan Railway in Bardez, just off the Mapusa to Bicholim road, and Mapusa town is about 7 to 10 km away. Call or WhatsApp +91 91049 12661 with your train number and date to book.
Despite the name, the station is in Sirsaim, a quiet area well away from the coast. There is no beach or hotel strip outside the gate, and the place you actually want to reach is probably 30 minutes or more away. That is why a pre-booked car is so useful here. Instead of working out a fare while tired, you can load your bags, open your maps and drive off.
How Pickup Works at Thivim
- Book in advance: Send us your date, train number and the car you would like.
- Update us on the day: Konkan route trains can run late, especially during the monsoon, so tell us about any delay. Keep your phone switched on.
- Meet our team: We will confirm the meeting point at the station shortly before you arrive.
- Check the car: Walk around it, photograph any marks, note the fuel level and complete the paperwork.
- Drive away: You can return the car here if you are leaving by train, or arrange another drop-off with us in advance.
Please confirm any delivery charge when you book. If your train reaches Thivim very late at night or early in the morning, tell us at the time of booking so that we can plan for it.
Thivim or Madgaon: Which Station Should You Use?
Many travellers do not realise that Goa has several railway stations. Thivim is usually the better stop if you are staying in North Goa, including Mapusa, Anjuna, Vagator, Siolim, Morjim or Arambol. If you are staying near Colva, Benaulim, Varca or Palolem, Madgaon is the better choice. For Dabolim, Bogmalo or Vasco, consider our Vasco da Gama Railway Station service. Before you book your ticket, check whether your train stops at Thivim, as not all of them do.
Best Cars to Book from Thivim
- Hyundai Grand i10 from ₹1,100: A budget-friendly car for two people with light luggage.
- Swift Automatic from ₹1,500: Easy to drive after a long train journey.
- Ertiga Automatic from ₹2,500: A 7-seater that suits smaller family groups.
- Thar Closed Roof from ₹3,000: Popular with friends heading for Vagator and Anjuna, but boot space is limited.
- Innova Crysta from ₹3,500: The most comfortable choice for families with big suitcases.
Trains mean heavy bags, so choose a car with enough boot space rather than just enough seats. See all rates on our price list and confirm yours when you book.

Your First Drive from the Station
Most routes begin on the road towards Mapusa. It is a good idea to set your hotel on your phone before you move off, as signal and signs may be patchy on the smaller roads. Roads around the station are generally quiet, but traffic builds as you get closer to Mapusa, particularly around market hours. If you arrive after dark, take your time. Some village roads have few lights, and you may meet cattle, dogs or scooters without warning.
Check your fuel level before heading to a remote stay, and plan a stop in Mapusa if you need water, snacks or a SIM card. Most guests are glad they did this before reaching the beach belt, where evening traffic can be slow.
Things to Do Near Thivim
You do not have to rush straight to the sea. Mayem Lake is a peaceful stop and is usually much quieter than the beaches. If you have a free morning, the road through Bicholim shows you an inland side of Goa that few visitors see. Mapusa’s market is worth a visit too, particularly for local sausages, spices, cashews and souvenirs. For the classic North Goa evening, drive to Vagator and walk up to Chapora Fort for sunset.
Returning the Car for Your Train Home
Leaving Goa by train? Arrange the return with us when you book, or at least a day in advance. Allow extra time for the drive, especially in the evening or during the Christmas and New Year period when roads near Mapusa and the beaches slow down. Refuel if your agreement requires it, take everything out of the car, and do a final check with our team. Aim to reach the station with enough time to spare, as you will want a calm walk to the platform and not a last-minute sprint.
Travelling at Peak Times
From November to February, trains into Goa and cars both book up quickly. If you have your ticket for Christmas or New Year, book the car as soon as you can. Automatic cars and 7-seaters tend to go first. In the monsoon, leave extra time for both trains and roads.
Who Finds Thivim Pickup Most Useful
Station pickup makes the most sense when your stay is more than a short taxi hop away. Groups of friends arriving from Mumbai or Pune often pick a Thar or SUV for the beach roads of Vagator and Anjuna. Families with children and grandparents tend to prefer an Innova Crysta, so that everyone and all the bags can travel together. People coming home to Goa for a wedding, a feast or a family visit often need a car for a week, particularly in villages with few buses. If you are working remotely from a rented home in Siolim, Assagao or Mapusa, a weekly rate can be much better value than daily taxis. Tell us about your trip when you book, and we will suggest a car that suits both your group and your luggage.
What You Need to Rent a Car
- Indian guests: A valid driving licence and a government photo ID.
- Foreign guests: Your home country licence with an International Driving Permit, plus your passport and valid visa.
- Everyone: A security deposit, as confirmed at booking.
Standard insurance is included, and you can ask about optional add-ons when you book. Staying further along the coast? See our pages for Mapusa, Anjuna, Vagator and Arambol.
